Introducing "Happy New Year, Same Old Genocide" — IMRAN®

Introducing "Happy New Year, Same Old Genocide" — IMRAN®

While the world was counting down and raising glasses on the night of December 31, 2025, I was occupied with the QUANTUM LAIR creating a different kind of New Year’s message — one that refuses to pretend everything is fine just because a calendar flipped a number, but the world did not turn a page.

So many sing to celebrate fireworks and fresh starts My heart's song is for millions who don’t get either

Few sing songs about shattered bodies, broken hearts The world could speak up, or fight — but does neither

For the people whose midnight brings no relief For the names erased, daily grief beyond belief

Innocent children living — dying — daily in fear Voices the cold world keeps choosing not to hear!

A new year means nothing if we carry the same silence into it. So I created a different kind of Happy New Year song as a reminder — and a refusal. We cannot toast to new beginnings while choosing to look away from ongoing suffering.

If you believe art should confront reality, not escape it… If you believe music can still speak truth when worlds collide and words fail… Then this is the song I made for you.

Meteor Shower - IMRAN™

Meteor Shower - IMRAN™
Just the sight of one of last night’s shooting stars inspired me to type out this poem on my Twitter app at 3AM today standing under the majestic moonless dark night sky.
As I stepped out of the house to soak in the Perseids meteor shower, one of the longest shooting stars I have ever seen streaked across the night sky right in front of me. Then another one sliced the dark night in its final but most glorious moment.
I wondered at how insignificant we are, and yet what great and significant lives we are blessed to have an opportunity to live, like gold dust from the heavens, shining uniquely for all eternity, once and only once, until we are gone, from this earth, but then to become parts of the specs of God’s dust in the ground below and the heavens above.

 METEOR SHOWER
===============
 O streaking band
 Of meteoric light
 A gold dust rain
 Each shiny grain
 Of universal sand
 Cosmic gift grand
 Flung in fiery flight
 From God's hand!

Surrendering Self-Control To Submissive Sky - IMRAN™

Surrendering Self-Control To Submissive Sky - IMRAN™
Another impossibly beautiful variation
of colors in the magical dusk
sensually revealing its core
opening incredibly breathtaking charms
to me for me mine mine mine
and leaves me breathless
as I surrender self control
to savor its total submission
on the planet sized canvas sheet
of the heavenly sky.

Can't Ration Passion - IMRAN™

I experienced something on Sunday that reminded me of the tenuousness of life. As Pakistan and its youth prepare to celebrate Independence Day, and as my friends, family and beloveds presence in my life shows me how blessed I am, here's  something I whipped v0.1 together to remind you….

Can't Ration Passion
by Imran Anwar

Live, with passion. Love, with passion.
Desire, with passion. Lust, with passion.
Dream, with passion. Pursue, with passion.
Rebel, with passion. March, with passion.
Freedom, with passion. Devotion, with passion.
Achieve, with passion. Sacrifice, with passion.
Until it is time to Die, with passion!

Live long, play hard, love madly, die happy! .... Can't Ration Passion!

The Young Woman And The Sea - IMRAN™

The Young Woman And The Sea - IMRAN™ by ImranAnwar
You Belong To The City by Glenn Frey is not just an inspired, amazing, timeless, poetic and rocking work of musical art, it is a song that, at one time or another, resonates with all of us as we pass through the stages in the play we call life. The song is even more special to me. It is one of the select songs I consider the soundtrack of my life.

It was thus ironic how quickly it came to mind when I met an old young beautiful intimate beloved friend, from recent years past, for an unexpected dinner and evening together. I had been planning to go to Smith Point beach to catch what was sure to be a beautiful sunset and dusk, when we connected on the phone after a very long time. So, we ended up going there together, a place we had last been several years ago, together, and with another love past and gone.

She, always patient, loving and caring, waited while I captured photos of the setting sun with my new Apple iPhone 4S. Not knowing I was watching her, she stood atop the forlorn log that had made the sands of Long Island its temporary home. And, I saw a moment that was as magical as it was timeless.

The Young Woman And The Sea, I said to myself as I clicked.

The wide angle view from an external lens I was testing on my new iPhone, the moment, the lighting, the log, the way the sun reflected on her golden tresses from the right, and the incredible way the tide had made the sand flow in the shape of angel wings around the log she stood on, I saw a timeless and absolutely unique moment in time…. a surreal almost masterpiece-like painting of life, accidentally brought to life, etched into memory, and now captured for the ages, by a mere cell phone camera.

I quickly snapped this photo and, later, at home, as I imported it into iPhoto, something struck a powerful chord....

We had been going through amazingly tumultuous and yet interesting and wonderful times in our respective lives when we last met and shared many wonderful experiences. And, as time, life, circumstances, people, events and fate dealt their hands, their blows, their stabs, it meant we continued our separate, still event-filled, surreal, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, journeys through life, until we got together again tonight. As these thoughts passed through my mind, in my ears Glenn's voice rang out truly, how "So much has happened, but nothing has changed".

As I pasted the lyrics to that wonderful song below for your pleasure, I could not resist but tweak some of the words (I hope the Text shows how I replaced some of the words {strike-through font} with ones even more suited to this moment {shown in bold}).

As you, gentle readers, dear friends, lovers old, new and future, read these words, just know, your most difficult, arduous, lonely journey is shared with me. It is shared by those you love, loved and will love. We may not be on the same part of the road, or hitting the same bumps at the same exact time, but, sooner or later, our paths will cross. I will take your hand, and be there for you. I promise.

One day, you will look back on the cold stormy nights and know that you did make it... because….

You Belong To The City
The sun goes down
The night rolls in
You can feel it starting all over again
The moon comes up
And the music ocean calls
You're getting tired of staring at the same four walls
You're out of your room
And down on the street beach
Moving through the crowds sand through the midnight heat winter freeze
The traffic ocean roars
And the sirens seagulls scream
You look at the faces waves, its just like a dream

Nobody know where you're going
Nobody cares where you've been

'Cause you belong to the city
You belong to the night
Living in a river of darkness, beneath the neon moon light
You were borne in on the city sea-tree
Concrete Sand under your feet
It's in your blood, its in your moves
You're a woman of the street beach

When you said goodbye
You were on the run
Tryin' to get away from the things you'd done
Now you're back again
And you're feeling strange
So much has happened, but nothing has changed

You still don't know where you're going
You're still just a face in the crowd

'Cause you belong to the city

You can feel it
You can taste it
You can see it
You can face it
You can hear it
You're getting near it
You want to make it
'Cause you can take it.

You belong to the city
You were borne in on the city sea-tree!

Cold Beautiful Sky On Fire - IMRAN™

SOOC Image Straight Out Of Camera!! NO editing, tweaking, of ANY kind. Only framed in Photoshop & saved image as 4.2MB JPG.

The end of April, one of the rainiest I have ever lived, in 2011, possibly the windiest cloudiest year I have lived on Long Island, gave just enough cloud cover to make the sunset, finally visible after dozens of sunsets burnt to dull nothingness by wet dark clouds.

In the words of Jefferson Starship,

Will you light the sky on fire?
Will you light tonight like
You did the night before?
Hey, you could take me higher
Than the diamonds in the sky

As this day was coming to an end in New York, the last day of the life of a once freedom loving later genocide-inspiring terrorist was starting.

Within about 24 hours this photo, Usama Bin Laden, whose desire to teach America a lesson led to the policies that set fire to the Middle East and rained death over Afghanistan, whose henchmen and hell-bound dogs of urban war unleashed the fiery torrents of suicide bombings on innocent Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Jews everywhere....

As Bin Laden's last 24 hours of raining death on fellow Muslims in the name of Islam, and on democracy lovers in the name of freedom, started, .... I saw the promise of a cloudy night of uncertainty, and, before a bright new dawn could rise, the symbolism of this peaceful, cool, beautiful Sky On Fire.

May Peace Be With You.

Untouched, unedited, unmodified Nikon D300 photo ISO200, 300-450mm, f/5.6. 2.3eV, 1/125 second to compensate for nasty Nikon bug that makes Nikon's own lenses show up as "Non-CPU" unrecognized lenses with no way to change aperture. Nikon makes great cameras that always have manufacturing defects. Shame!

Blessed, Beach - IMRAN™

I do not fancy myself a poet. And, though challenges remain in my life, as for most of us, the blessings that abound cannot be counted.

I could not resist tapping this out to my friends and followers from my iPhone on a (chilly) night, standing at the beach of my blessed home at Heron Pointe, New York....

Walking along the rippling waterline on my beach. Definitely not T-shirt temperature. New Moon a thin orange sliver, perched atop the horizon, wants to get cozy under the (cloud) covers - but they're nowhere to be found. Shiny stars glint in the night's cold eye, as dark skies silently hear the wind's sighs. I stand still, on my own will, humbled, as I realize again - How Blessed Am I !

Joy Of Flight (Even On A Cloudy Day) - IMRAN™

Cloudy, dull, a chilly day;
No reason not to fly away.
Runway lined with aviators,
Modern airborne gladiators.

Throttle Full, Rudder Right,
No traffic in my line of sight.
Total calm, no fear, no fright,
My spirit already taking flight.

Engine roars, rushing airflow,
Defeating gravity, Here I Go!
Farewell ground, Hello sky,
Joy of flight makes me cry!

Lava Sky On Fire, Birds - IMRAN™

In late chilly fall,
Falls early night.
My eyes rise,
To fiery skies,
Of legend & lore,
Making spirit soar.
Heeding my call,
Birds take flight.

Orion's Belt And Ocean's Beach

Orion's Belt And Ocean's Beach
by Imran Anwar

Standing, in time, vast Ocean's Beach,
Towering over tiny grains of sand,
Some dark, wet, others pale and dry.
Gazing up, hours, at blue moonlit sky,
Sparkling stardust, ours, waiting at hand.
Orion's Belt, my spirit pants to reach.
One day, I'll be among those stars,
Smiling at beautiful life from afar!

Songs Of Spring Flying & "Pink! I Soar"

Songs Of Spring Flying & "Pink! I Soar" - IMRAN™ ___ (Please Enjoy The Words)

As the inexorable march of time brings our days to a close, just past the Ides Of March, the clocks spring forward, back to their original times. Spring may be in the air, or at least around the corner of the winter clock's tearing eye --- as will be happier days and times one day on the calendar of life.

Blue skies are not immediately visible on the horizon and the darkness of night still stands, brooding, silently menacing, around the water's edge.

But even in impending dusk, the sky blushes pink for its fantasy-filled thoughts of the sensual dawn it yearns to be embraced by. The soul wonders. What shall I do with this moment?

One Day I'll Fly Away, but does it have to be now? Shall I seek refuge in stark branches with Broken Wings? Or go back to Learning To Fly so l can fly again to seek the new dawn -- which I have to believe is waiting over the horizon?

I think. I feel. I choose. I roar.
"When eyes see Pink, I soar."

PS Sorry, I could not resist the puns on Pink Eye, Pink Eyesore, etc. for an image that is cool and pleasing to the eye. Of course the Pink Floyd song reference also reminded me of two other favorite songs, one from Randy Crawford and the other from the one-hit wonder Mister Mister.

Mother Of Exiles, By The Golden Doors

Mother Of Exiles, By The Golden Doors - IMRAN™

Mother Of Exiles, By The Golden Doors

By Imran Anwar

The Statute of Liberty, in New York, is one of the best recognized symbols in the world. Less known are the full words of the poem found there. See it larger.

On a heavily clouded day in Manhattan, the often blue sky filled with shades of gray was burdened with the weight of a golden red sunset they were trying to conceal.

The light was the worst it could be for a great traditional photograph. But, as I caught the patina of Lady Liberty through the architectural frame painted Gold by the falling sun..... it provided the perfect backdrop for me to remember, and share, the words that hold so true today, and forever.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Grains Of Sand In The Sky - By Imran Anwar

Grains Of Sand In The Sky

by Imran Anwar

(Dedicated on August 21-22, 2009,
To the memory of my beloved father, Anwar-uud-din.
Born Aug 22, 1931 he left us December 21, 2008)

Over the waves' mighty roar
On a weather beaten shore
Sounds, of pebbles and rocks I find
The tides of time that eternally grind

At first, I defiantly, bravely, stand
Before long, humbly kneel in sand
Here I tremble on an infinite brink
Unfathomable grasp of a mystic link

The ripples sing an endless refrain
"Remember, every fine sandy grain
Does an amazing secret nurse
It too is center of the universe

Under mortal feet on a sandy beach
From far beyond its meagre reach
It too feels tugs from eons afar
Its tiny core yearns to be a star."

On the edge of the wavy bay
At the end of the shiny day
I look up at the darkening sky
Where stars live and meteors die

At this eternal moment in time
No timeless words, no fancy rhyme
No complex grand theory of chaos
Explain simple truth of the cosmos

I realize it's so very true
Nothing even the Sun can do
To any way stop or stall
The certainty of nightfall

Darkness around, near and far
Defied by a single shining star
A turning, blinking distant firefly
A burning grain of sand in the sky
