Complex Clouds, Magnificent Magical Tantalizing Textures, Span Sunset - IMRAN®

Words can barely capture the incredibly complex cloud textures and tones that spanned the early August sunset over Tampa Bay. Earlier rain had made the pavers around the pool look darker. 

This HDR (high dynamic range) panorama was created from about eight handheld shots taken with the Nikon D850, stitched together in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.

On one side, sharp clouds carved dramatic shapes, while in the middle, higher formations smoothed into silky, fog-like patterns. Even farther above, smaller distant shapes reflected the fading sun’s light, deepening the scene into darker, redder tones.

I chose not to “correct” those hues, because they lend the image an indescribable richness—one that others often chase with filters, but nature gifted me directly.

It was mid-spring in Paris, and the city was bathed in the kind of light photographers dream about. At a quarter past eight, as the sun dipped toward the horizon, I stood atop the Arc de Triomphe watching the golden hour unfold across the city.
In the foreground, the slender spire of Église Saint-François-Xavier pierced the skyline, its silhouette etched in gold against the evening sky. A quiet but commanding presence, it stood as a reminder of the city’s spiritual and architectural depth.
Just beyond it, Les Invalides gleamed, its dome catching the sunset’s last rays and glowing like polished gold. Beneath that brilliance lies Napoleon Bonaparte, but in that moment, the monument felt alive—radiating history.
Far off, the Montparnasse Tower rose above the skyline, its modern silhouette softened by the amber light. Often seen as a break from tradition, tonight it looked almost poetic—like even the future was willing to bask in the past.
And beneath me, the Arc de Triomphe itself—my perch and Paris’s proud sentinel. Built to honor those who fought for France, it offered a view that stitched centuries together in one radiant sweep. That evening, Paris didn’t just whisper its story—it sang it in gold.

I’ve bought some fantastic suits from Brooks Brothers—but this? This is where I have to draw the line.
Captured ten years ago (May 2nd, 2015) and stumbled upon today, this plaid extravaganza is a bold testament to fashion… or maybe just a test of how much a man can endure before completely losing faith in menswear. With its red, blue, green, and white checkered chaos, paired with a white shirt and a blue lens-flares-like polka-dot tie, this ensemble looks like someone tried to make picnic blanket chic—and failed spectacularly.
Even if Brooks Brothers offered me a lifetime supply of proper suits, free tailoring, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Milan, I still wouldn't wear this. Not even as a prank. Not even in the dark where nobody could see me.
For the executive who secretly longs to be the star of a barbershop quartet? The aspiring mogul who wants to make a statement—just not a good one? Who exactly was this made for? Because I have questions. And they’re plaid and confused.

A dozen years ago before I penned these words in 2024, the rose bushes at my blessed home on Long Island, New York, were in full, glorious bloom. It was the early summer of 2012, the day before my 50th birthday.
The tornadoes and droughts of total economic meltdown, brought on by the policies of Republican President George W. Bush which enriched the super-wealthy with one trillion dollars of tax cuts, had wreaked havoc on my life as on millions of ordinary individuals, families, and entire towns. The next few years were spent on surviving, recovering, and rebuilding. Even then it was a rocky road.
By the time 2012 rolled in, after a labyrinthine journey of heart-sinking troughs, fleeting peaks, and unexpected drops into new valleys, life began to hint at a promising change ahead. I had to remind myself that life’s most exquisite blooms often come accompanied by the piercing thorns of reality.
The key is to persistently tend to one’s garden of dreams, rooting it in unshakeable faith, nurturing it with the water of hope, showering it with the rain of love, fortifying it with the grains of gratitude, and ceaselessly illuminating it with the lights of confidence, and perseverance.
No matter the adversities you face, remember, they are but temporary. You possess the strength to surmount them. Never let go of your dreams. Never relinquish your authentic self. Within you lies an indomitable spirit. You are capable of blooming despite the thorns. Are you ready to live the life you dream of?

My beloved mother left us at age 50 on 2/2/1992. Even after 33 years, the tears have not ceased. Thinking of that day still brings an unending flow of sorrow.

As I saw this sunset on her anniversary at my blessed Florida home, I was overtaken by emotion. Even heaven's eyes are bloodshot, crying oceans of tears. The sun seemed to understand the pain I, her firstborn son, have endured all these years.

I do not expect it to abate now or for the time I have left before I see her again in the Universe around us.

Talk about mind-reading. Scientists have made an exciting discovery by mapping how our brains understand the meanings of words. This new map shows that our brains use similar categories to classify words, which helps us make sense of language.

The study, focused on English words, is a step towards understanding how our brains store language. By mapping brain cells’ responses to words, we can start building a “thesaurus of meaning.”  

Published in Nature, the research highlights how the auditory cortex processes word sounds, while the prefrontal cortex deciphers their meanings. Previous studies used brain imaging to map word meanings, but a team of researchers recorded real-time neuron activity in epilepsy patients with implanted electrodes.

Participants listened to sentences, and the scientists tracked which neurons fired. They found that specific neurons responded to words in similar categories, like actions or people. Words with related meanings, such as “mouse” and “rat,” triggered similar neuronal patterns.

Interestingly, the prefrontal cortex neurons distinguished words by meaning, not sound. For example, “son” activated family-related neurons, but “Sun” did not, despite sounding the same. As someone who speaks English, Urdu, Punjabi, and is learning French, it would be fascinating to literally "see" how multi-lingual people's neurons operate. 

These researchers could partially determine what participants heard by observing neuron activity, identifying general themes like animals, actions, and food. This detailed understanding of single-neuron activity is crucial for developing brain-computer interfaces to restore speech. 

Of course, the great risk to our freedoms would come from Big Brother literally being able to read our minds and know our thoughts. Add in the great power of Artificial Intelligence overlaid on these bio-medical, medical-imaging, and bio-engineering breakthroughs and.... I know what you're thinking.

Some things never change. My lack of talent in learning to play music. My taking selfies. My still having this necktie that my late beloved mom had bought for me 40 years ago! 

My Yamaha B200 synth keyboard. Even my Atari ST computer from the 1980s. And that Columbia Business School textbook. It is among ALL my books from that time I still retain. They are all still at my blessed home on Long Island, New York.

Being a Gemini, and wanting two of everything, has not changed. You can see I had two computers even in 1989, and two monitors.  Heck, you can even see two of me, if you see my reflection in one of the monitors, which I still have. The monitor. I am sure I do not have that same reflection anymore, but I have a lot more reflections on life! 

I do take care of my things. Even that wall poster from the  New York City Tourism + Conventions' “I ❤️ New York” tourism promotion campaign, titled “New York Is Music”, from 1989 is still intact in Pakistan. My mom had it framed for me. 

What did change is clearly me having far more fat and far less hair. But I remain blessed and grateful for an incredible journey. No one could have lived a fuller life than I have, from the day I was born until today - and God willing on every day - until it will be time for the grand finale of my life, when my music must fade out. Thank you for all the love all along the way.

Exactly five years ago today. The forever smiling Kennedy in the back. Fast-growing K2 in front had been with us a full five weeks. He was just 13 weeks old in this photo. 

Both German Shepherds were waiting as I was bringing them a treat. They watched me take this photo of them with my own selfie reflection in the sliding door. 

The doubled title words play on there actually being a dual reflection in the double-paned glass. I had to use high contrast to avoid it looking too much like a shaky camera photo.

The magical powers of Amazon, or the weakness of poor UX CX software systems quality assurance? Amazon dog food delivery is Available TODAY -- even though the product is Not Available. Maybe the Amazon trucks have mini-factories to manufacture dog food en route to making a delivery. 

In all seriousness, for several years I have described to clients how such a blend of mobile 3D printing, just-in-time manufacturing, and real-time-deliveries will enable the reality of such Customized Mobile Retail sooner than we expect. 

Human foods are likely among the first use-cases that will go mainstream. The irony, that basically the centuries old street food vendors concept at a far more flexible and gigantic scale is one of the next big things. What else do you think such convergences will create opportunities for?

(CAUTION) Sticking My Neck Out - (20 Hours After I Survived In A Cut-Throat World!) - IMRAN™

Caution, scary image of my face - fine, and a cleaned up 20-hours later view of the incision. That is the maybe 8-inches throat slit where the surgery was done through. I am only sharing it as people asked how it went. I did not post the one from soon after waking up because the cut looks fresh as if I got treated like John Wick. 

Honestly, I almost did not make it out alive. But God is kind, and the medical team was great. So, I am still here and you will have to continue to read my stories!

Life is clearly a cut-throat game. I am so grateful for the great medical professionals and technology, the employer provided great medical insurance, and the prayers of each and everyone who cares and loves me. Thank you.
