Baby Sister Ambereen And Me - IMRAN™ Today is my precious sister Ambereen's birthday. Our beloved late parents always gave us so much love and focus on family, I am blessed to retain that connection with her. She is an incredible sister, respected doctor and professor, author of a medical text book, in addition to being an amazing wife and mother in her own family in Lahore, I am not sure of the exact date, but she looks to be about one year old. It may have been spring, because we were outside in the backyard of wherever my father was posted at the time. (Naiwala, Chianwali, or Renala Khurd in Pakistan). We do not seem to be dressed for cold weather nor seem to be melting in the Punjab heat. So, I am guessing it was soon after her birthday. My father was into photography from an early age and would often grab candid casual shots of us, so sometimes they would not be perfectly framed. I think he loved the moment he saw in front of his eyes and captured it on Agfa B/W film with his Argus camera. I still keep that camera safe. © Mid-1960s Anwar-ud-Din (1932-2008) © 2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Pakistan #family #Punjab #childhood #memories #siblings #Argus #Agfa #autobiographyBaby Sister Ambereen And Me - IMRAN™ Today is my precious sister Ambereen's birthday. Saturday Into Sunday Slow Cooker No Hurry Nihari First Time Experiment A Huge Success - IMRAN™ Nihari (from the Urdu/Persisn word Nihar for morning) is a meticulously planned, super-slow cooked, elaborately spiced, tender beef dish infused with the richness of bone marrow. It started in the kitchens of Nawabs (Muslim rulers of princely states in pre-partition India). I got hooked on it growing up in Karachi where the tradition continued in Pakistan. Some places had it in Lahore too. However, in the early 1980s I’d go straight to my favorite place (in the backstreet food places off the intersection of Tariq Road and Allama-Iqbal Road) when I’d visit my late maternal grandmother, who lived in our Karachi home. My absolute non-interest in cooking is globally-known and eternally-established. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t like to use kitchen gadgets to experiment… especially since I got my Philips Air Fryer (awesome for salmon filets) and CrockPot slow cooker. This time I got ambitious, and decided to make Nihari over this mid-Ramadan weekend. Maybe the full moon made me do it. On top of Nihari being hard to make as it is, I decided to do my own version — without firing up any stove, any saucepan, or doing any kind of frying as some stages require. I have to say, I surprised myself by how absolutely fantastic it turned out. The Stage Is (The) Set - IMRAN™ Yes! Front row seats to Cirque du Soleil, this time for BAZZAR. My first Cirque du Soleil show was the incredible Delerium, which my then-GF in Miami T had taken us to in 2007 or so. Even though those seats were towards the back in the arena show, that concert & circus all in one still remains one of my all-time favorites. That 2-years running show worldwide was ending and was never redone. They never even released a DVD. Since then I’ve taken front row seats for every Cirque show (almost all in different trips to Las Vegas) — except the Beatles one, which I’ve skipped. I jumped on the opportunity to get front row seats to the latest one, BAZZAR, that played under a big top outside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. I was traveling all that week. I literally managed to fly back into Tampa Airport just an hour or so before showtime, drove straight to the venue, parked, and got seated barely 5 minutes before the show started. Even though the 2-hours long BAZZAR was great fun, to me it was still a fraction as mind-blowing as Delerium was 17 years ago. However, I am so glad I got to reconnect with Cirque - in an arena setting - basically where my appreciation for it started, in Florida. © 2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Florida #TampaBay #StPetersburg #TropicanaField #entertainment #culture #circus #concert #stage #CirqueDuSoleil #BAZZAR #memories #history #travel #gratitude @cirquedusoleil @tropicanafield @stpeteflThe Stage Is (The) Set - IMRAN™ Yes! Commemorating 50 Years Anniversary Of Reading & Watching "The Godfather" In Pakistan - IMRAN™ When and where did you read Mario Puzo's novel "The Godfather"? If you did not read it, did you watch the movie? I remember reading the incredible novel as a pre-teen in Karachi, Pakistan. That was also when I first started trying to learn foreign languages German and French (in addition to English of course). But I did not get to become consistent in learning French until I started using DuoLingo daily since the last 3 years. There is so much French literature and poetry I want to understand and appreciate. I remember learning that besides the novel opening with the epigraph, "Behind every great fortune there is a crime. - Balzac" another of the most quoted lines in movie history, Don Corleone’s unforgettable statement, “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse” is an almost word for word translation of dialog from Balzac's novel, Father Goriot. That was written in 1835, more than 100 years before The Godfather! In the 1970s, Hollywood movies used to take a much longer tine to reach developing countries' cinemas. That is a far cry from today. I loved seeing Top Gun Maverick in IMAX with my family in my birthday visit to Lahore last year, literally the day it also hit theaters in the USA. However, The Godfather movie, made in 1972, did not get into theaters in Pakistan until later. Even then I was among the first to see it. I was amazed at how well made it was and it remains a classic to this day. Fifty years go by so fast. I felt it would be fun to salute to the novel and the movie with this T-shirt half-a-century later. © 2023 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #MarioPuzo #TheGodFather #books #literature #movies #history #French #languages #travel #childhood #BalzacCommemorating 50 Years Anniversary Of Reading & Watching "The Godfather" In Pakistan - IMRAN™ When and where did you read Mario Puzo's novel "The Godfather"? Inspirational Portrait Of A Lone One-Footed Determined Seagull At Bellport Marina Long Island New York Winter 2010 - IMRAN™ December of 2010 was a period of immense complexity, not just for me, but for countless others as well. The economic fallout from the Republican Bush era, marked by a near-depression and financial meltdown, still lingered heavily. While the recovery efforts under President Obama were beginning to show some promise, dark clouds continued to loom on the economic horizon. There was a sense of cautious optimism, a belief that brighter days were on the way, yet the looming presence of sunsets – both literal and metaphorical – served as a constant reminder of the challenges that lay ahead. It was during this first week of December 2010 that I had ridden my motorcycle to Bellport Marina, not far from my home on the Great South Bay of Long Island. That is where I encountered this lone, confident, one-footed seagull. As I took the photo, with Fire Island & Old Inlet in the background, it gazed back at me. The creature, much like me and countless others, had endured its own injuries, leaving it seemingly debilitated. Yet, despite these altered circumstances that had been thrust upon it, this seagull refused to surrender. It maintained a proud stance, continuing to navigate life as best it could. It inspired me to take its portrait with the iPhone 4 which I had at the time. The weathered wooden edge of the pier mirrored the precariousness of the times, a constant threat of tipping over the edge and into oblivion. However, with a different mental vantage point, it could also be interpreted as a beckoning step, an invitation to take flight and soar towards a realm brimming with new possibilities. To this day, more than a dozen years later, I am incredibly grateful for the perspective this encounter offered. The seagull served as a powerful reminder to approach challenges with a one-step-at-a-time mentality, a testament to the enduring power of hope and the unwavering spirit of pursuing one's dreams, no matter the obstacles. So, whatever challenges you may face, never give up hope, never surrender your dreams. Stand, even if it is on just one foot, and take that next step to achieving your goals. © 2010-2024 IMRAN™Inspirational Portrait Of A Lone One-Footed Determined Seagull At Bellport Marina Long Island New York Winter 2010 - IMRAN™ December of 2010 was a period of immense complexity, not just for me, but for countless others as well. Stunning Sunset, As Day Turns To Night So Do The Gradients Of Life From Start To End – IMRAN™ Just as quickly as a day ends and turns to night, all the days of our lives fly by so fast. Then, suddenly, we are facing the end of our days and facing the eternal night. How we feel at that moment is a summation of how we had chosen to spend the day. With a well-spent, joyful, gratitude-filled attitude throughout the day, even when we face the night, we can celebrate the sunset. Rather than being afraid of the dark, we can appreciate the gradient of experiences that spanned the day from morning to evening, and all our lives since birth until that moment. The breathtakingly smooth gradients of sunset colors filled the sky across Tampa Bay at my Apollo Beach home. We can see beauty and brilliance even when a deep sark sea is all around. Every sunset I have been blessed to experience is a reminder of that choice. The breathtakingly smooth gradients of sunset colors filled the sky across Tampa Bay at my Apollo Beach home. This is a panorama from half-a-dozen handheld photos I captured in the fall of 2018. They were taken with the Nikon D850, a gift from a beautiful beloved in 2016. I only got around to posting it today. It is from the nearly 100,000 moments of magic I have captured in my life and may never have enough time in one lifetime to post with stories like this. Billy Joel / Sting / Tampa Stadium - Triple Play Of Firsts In One Night - IMRAN™ I’ve known Billy Joel songs since the late 1970s, when I was literally a little boy in Karachi, Pakistan. I’ve appreciated Sting’s talent, lyrics, and music since the start. In 1980 Police songs like Don’t Stand So Close To Me made me love the band and artist. Over the years, Sting’s solo later year songs have become even more special to me. Desert Rose and The Book Of My Life are masterpieces I can’t get enough of for their resonance with my soul. Yet, I had not been to any of their concerts in the half century I’ve gotten to love these performers’ songs and talent more and more. Meanwhile, I’ve called Tampa Bay home for a dozen years but had never made it to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play. Finally, I had a hat-trick or triple-play of firsts. What fun to see both legends, Billy Joel and Sting, do a joint concert in Tampa, Florida Saturday night, 02/24/24, at the Bucs stadium. I had made reservations months ago. It was quite cold tonight, putting me in a New York State Of Mind. On top of it being a clear night, it was all happening live under a full moon. Grateful and blessed at another wonderful experience in The Book Of My Life. Have you seen them in concert? What are your favorite songs of these two legendary artists? © 2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Sting #BillyJoel #legends #music #musicians #concert #artists #history #autobiography #Buccaneers #Tampa #Florida #songs #SongReferencesBilly Joel / Sting / Tampa Stadium - Triple Play Of Firsts In One Night - IMRAN™ I’ve known Billy Joel songs since the late 1970s, when I was literally a little boy in Karachi, Pakistan.
