As Easy As (Circles of) Pi: A Love Story in Frequencies - IMRAN®

As Easy As (Circles of) Pi: A Love Story in Frequencies - IMRAN®

My fascination with Fourier—and Laplace—transforms began back in the early '80s during my Electrical Engineering days at UET Lahore. These mathematical tools break down any complex signal into a sum of sine and cosine waves, each with its own frequency. It’s a beautiful trick that makes even the most daunting waveforms easier to work with.

The idea goes all the way back to the early 1800s, when Joseph Fourier suggested that even the most intricate patterns—like shifting tides or rustling winds—could be formed from simple, repeating waves. It was revolutionary.

Think of those Spirograph toys we used as kids: plastic gears spinning around to create intricate patterns. Now imagine those circles representing different frequencies, combining and rotating in sync to draw something as elegant as the Pi symbol. Complexity, unspooled into rhythm and rotation—with a touch of childhood wonder.

This image is a collage of four screenshots to illustrate the idea. The short reels/videos I linked in comments below bring it to life in a magical way that feels both modern and nostalgic.

Balancing Between Light and Darkness – A Stunning Sunset on Foreboding Days, Long Island, First Week of 2010 - IMRAN®

Balancing Between Light and Darkness – A Stunning Sunset on Foreboding Days, Long Island, First Week of 2010 - IMRAN®

The scars of the economic collapse lingered in the air—an unsettling hush after the storm of hardship brought by the reckless tax cuts and economic policies of George W. Bush. We face even greater dangers today, in 2025, but I remain hopeful that we will endure the latest attacks on poor people and the working class.

Though the first signs of recovery had begun in 2009, the weight of despair was still crushing, and hope felt like a distant whisper.

Yet, on that fateful evening, the heavens painted a masterpiece of resilience before my very eyes. Standing on the boardwalk at my beloved Long Island home, I captured an unedited, breathtaking sunset through the lens of my Nikon D300—an image that mirrored my own journey.

The golden sun, defiant and determined, struggled to pierce the ominous veil of swirling clouds above. Below, the marshlands—mysterious, untamed, dangerous—stood as silent witnesses to the battle between light and darkness. The day itself was unusual, with temperatures locked at a frozen equilibrium, both high and low at 34°F, refusing to budge.

In the midst of nature’s restless turmoil, I held onto faith. Even in those darkest days, I knew that light would return—not just in the sky, but in my life. And by the grace of the Almighty, brighter days did come. What followed were moments of clarity and renewal, both literally and figuratively—a reminder of the strength found in belief, perseverance, and the enduring power of hope.

Sweet Honey Gold Summer Full Moon Setting on Tampa Bay, Florida – IMRAN®

Sweet Honey Gold Summer Full Moon Setting on Tampa Bay, Florida – IMRAN®

I’m not a morning person. That’s why 99% of my sun photos feature sunsets, not sunrises. But after an inexplicable 43-hour stretch of wakefulness—courtesy of a single, unassuming cup of coffee that somehow outperformed two liters of Pepsi—I finally crashed past midnight, expecting to barely scrape my way to a 9 AM meeting.

Instead, I was up at 5:50 AM. And as I rolled to my left in bed, I saw why.

A luminous, golden honey full moon shimmered through my window, gracefully setting beyond Tampa Bay. It was a sight too beautiful to ignore.

Sleep be damned—I grabbed my iPhone 16 Pro Max, knowing full well that multiple panes of glass would create unavoidable reflections. But capturing the magic mattered more than technical perfection.

I tried Apple Intelligence’s artifact removal, but it botched the scene. Adobe’s PS Express AI cleanup did a far better job. So that’s the image I’m sharing. It’s still a phone camera shot—never meant to reveal every crater on the moon or preserve the water’s perfect texture. Reducing exposure further would erase the bay entirely.

It’s not a masterpiece of photography. It’s a moment of magic—fleeting, yet full of peace, tranquility, grace, gratitude, and prayer.

Thank you, God.

PS: So much for catching up on sleep.

Secret Security Samsung SmartThings Snap Screenshot Selfie - IMRAN®

Secret Security Samsung SmartThings Snap Screenshot Selfie - IMRAN®

This screenshot, taken from a livestream of a decade-old Samsung SmartThings security camera at my Long Island, New York home, highlights the surprising longevity of security camera technology. Even after 10+ years, the image maintains impressive clarity and rich colors—without any edits!

At the forefront is my pool table, casually draped with a red shirt, adding a lived-in feel to the scene. Positioned behind it, my large surround speakers frame two recliners, including a luxurious Panasonic massage chair—perfect for sinking into deep relaxation. To the left, the entryway stands as an inviting threshold, while the far-right area serves as both a sitting space and a hub for musical composition.

This image reminds me how far digital cameras have come—from the early days of photography to today’s compact yet powerful devices that achieve similar quality for $30 or less.

GSD K2 Glowing In Early Autumn Long Island New York Monday Morning Sunlight - IMRAN®

I square-cropped this spontaneous portrait, captured on a crisp Monday morning in early autumn at my cherished Long Island, New York home. Just as I clicked in the moment, my beautiful German Shepherd Dog, K2—always eager to fetch the sticks I throw—was caught in random beams of sunlight, seeming to glow with a natural radiance.

There’s a commanding presence in the stark yet spacious atrium of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta—a testament to architectural ambition. The soaring lines and expansive openness create a captivating interplay of space and structure.

While some photography magazines might suggest cropping out the empty floor at the bottom, I chose to leave it intact, allowing the composition to breathe and offering a richer sense of scale and perspective.

I captured this moment in my stay there in late December, 2024.

Adult GSD K2 At Tampa Bay Home Beach He First Felt Sea & Sand As A Puppy 5 Years Ago - IMRAN®

Adult GSD K2 At Tampa Bay Home Beach He First Felt Sea & Sand As A Puppy 5 Years Ago - IMRAN®

K2 was exactly eight weeks old the day my forever-missed German Shepherd Dog, Kennedy, and I brought him home in mid-April 2020. That spring day, I walked both dog and puppy to a small, private beach in the Apollo Beach home community on Tampa Bay.

It was K2’s first time feeling the sand beneath his paws and seeing the sea. Kennedy immediately waded in up to his belly, so I followed, my pants drenched above my knees.

K2 squealed a bit as his paws first touched the water. He retreated, tried again, felt unsure, and briefly withdrew. But within seconds, he built up his courage and waded in towards me—legs deep.  Kennedy watched on with a bemused look. I will share a link to that video in the comments.  K2 has not hesitated jumping in the water every chance he got since then.

Five years later, K2 still loves swimming in the bay to fetch whatever I toss for him.  Although he doesn’t sit and soak in sunsets like Kennedy once did—almost like a philosopher—K2 occasionally pauses to take in the scene, briefly setting his rambunctious nature aside. I took this photo as a tranquil sunset painted the sky to the left.

Night Business Suit? Brooks Brothers, Really? – IMRAN®

Night Business Suit? Brooks Brothers, Really? – IMRAN®
I’ve bought some fantastic suits from Brooks Brothers—but this? This is where I have to draw the line.
Captured ten years ago (May 2nd, 2015) and stumbled upon today, this plaid extravaganza is a bold testament to fashion… or maybe just a test of how much a man can endure before completely losing faith in menswear. With its red, blue, green, and white checkered chaos, paired with a white shirt and a blue lens-flares-like polka-dot tie, this ensemble looks like someone tried to make picnic blanket chic—and failed spectacularly.
Even if Brooks Brothers offered me a lifetime supply of proper suits, free tailoring, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Milan, I still wouldn't wear this. Not even as a prank. Not even in the dark where nobody could see me.
For the executive who secretly longs to be the star of a barbershop quartet? The aspiring mogul who wants to make a statement—just not a good one? Who exactly was this made for? Because I have questions. And they’re plaid and confused.

That’s Hot Honey? That’s Hot, Honey! – IMRAN®

That’s Hot Honey? That’s Hot, Honey! – IMRAN®

I’ve never been accused of being a vegetable lover. If anything, people assume I avoid them entirely—though I do eat my fair share now, certainly more than I did as a kid.

That said, I somehow developed a tolerance for V8 vegetable juice back in the late ‘90s. If memory serves, it was always a bit of a struggle to gulp down, and the sodium content may have played a role in my eventual break-up with it—especially since I found tomato juice slightly more palatable.

Fast forward to today, and V8 has been experimenting with new blends, adding fruit juices to make their vegetable concoctions more appealing. I’ve enjoyed some of these variations, and while they don’t exactly replace eating actual vegetables, they still feel like a better choice than reaching for yet another Pepsi.

Recently, I stumbled upon V8 Hot Honey, a bold new twist on their classic vegetable juice. This one is spicy, with a sweet kick from honey, and I have to say—I’m enjoying it! I’m not sure how long they’ll keep this blend around, but I figured I’d share it with you all. Have you spotted it in grocery stores? Have you tried it yet?

It’s yet another creation from Campbell Soup Company, which has been around since the 1800s—though I mostly think of them for their soups and snacks, some of which I consume in slightly excessive quantities. If this post somehow helps their sales, maybe I can negotiate a lifetime supply of their limited-edition flavors like Spicy Quesadilla, which I’ve been enjoying a lot lately.

One word of caution—the sodium in V8 drinks has always been something to watch, and this one is no different. If you’re keeping an eye on your salt intake, it might be worth a quick label check before diving in.

What do you think? Would you give V8 Hot Honey a try, or are you sticking to the classics?

Beautiful Beach Blues Atlantic Ocean & Bays Of Long Island New York - IMRAN®

A breathtaking scene unfolds beneath my wings as I soar past the bays surrounding Long Island, New York, just east of my beloved home on the Great South Bay. Here, the endless blues of the Atlantic Ocean merge with the serene dunes and pristine beaches of the Hamptons and Fire Island. This captivating region has been my blessed playground for private flying and thrilling boating adventures, stretching from Manhattan to Montauk—a treasured haven for exactly three decades.

See Dog Sea Dock: GSD K2 Guards Long Island New York Home Boat Slip At Autumn Sunset - IMRAN®

My incredible German Shepherd Dog, K2, joined me on a journey back to my New York home of 30 years, making the 1200+ mile drive together. We had evacuated Apollo Beach, Florida, as Hurricane Milton began its assault. Rather than endure power outages and uncertainty, we chose NY for refuge.

The last time K2 had been here was alongside the now departed Kennedy, exactly two years prior. This visit felt different, nostalgic yet comforting. K2 sat vigilant at my finger pier, standing guard as I walked to the very end—a pier I had commissioned more than 20 years ago. From the south end, I captured this stunning moment, where the golden autumn sunset cast its radiant glow upon K2 and the tranquil but dark looking waters.

Born Montgomery, Pakistan May 23 Overflying Montgomery, Alabama, Birthday Weekend Night Flight Tampa, FL To New York, NY; Final Date & Destination: Unknown — IMRAN®

All that I am. All that I have done. Every choice, every coincidence, every risk, every decision—has brought me right here, right now.

From the infinite stars, to Montgomery, Pakistan at birth—to overflying Montgomery, Alabama—flying in the dark night from Tampa to New York for my birthday weekend.

Flying forward, a fate-filled journey, toward destinations unknown. Until I reach the Final Destination—the time and place of my Final Reckoning—the point beyond which nothing remains unwritten.

A moment where past, present, and future collide and fuse, where consequences unfold, where the completed journey is measured and the book of life is closed. The choices made until then will define everything that comes next, for eternity, and a return to the stars.

My fate may be written, but my destiny is mine to forge. The journal of my journey, the map of this final phase and the places that fly past beneath me, remains mine to write. By my own hand.

So help me, God.

Manhattan Moments: Nighttime Witnessing NYC’s Skyline Changing – IMRAN®

Manhattan Moments: Nighttime Witnessing NYC’s Skyline Changing – IMRAN®

Four years ago, in August 2021, during an after-dinner walk, I captured the early stages of construction for what is now a towering landmark in Midtown Manhattan. At the time, it was just a framework of steel and scaffolding, but today, it has transformed into JPMorgan Chase's headquarters at 270 Park Avenue—a striking addition to the city skyline.

Nestled between 47th and 48th Streets, between Park and Madison Avenues, this skyscraper now stands 1,388 feet tall with 60 floors, making it one of the tallest buildings in New York City. It officially topped out in November 2023, replacing the former Union Carbide Building with a sleek, modern design and an inviting public plaza.

Looking back at that moment, it's incredible to see how rapidly the city evolves, turning fleeting construction sites into architectural icons that define the urban landscape.
