Like Kennedy before him, my German Shepherd Dog K2 has a special fascination with dolphins. Kennedy would go absolutely gaga with joy whenever they appeared.
K2's journey has been different. At first he was just curious, then excited, then barking his big‑puppy bark at every splash. Today, as he turns 6, I saw a new side of him. Still the nonstop oversized puppy in so many ways, yet suddenly calm and composed.
I noticed him sitting quietly, staring out at the water with an intensity that made me pause. Only then did I realize he was watching a pair of dolphins I hadn't even heard arrive. By the time I reached the still‑under‑repair boardwalk edge, they had already glided past us. But K2 stayed there, watching—taking it in with a maturity that surprised me, and moved me.
