The Stage Is (The) Set - IMRAN™ Yes! Front row seats to Cirque du Soleil, this time for BAZZAR. My first Cirque du Soleil show was the incredible Delerium, which my then-GF in Miami T had taken us to in 2007 or so. Even though those seats were towards the back in the arena show, that concert & circus all in one still remains one of my all-time favorites. That 2-years running show worldwide was ending and was never redone. They never even released a DVD. Since then I’ve taken front row seats for every Cirque show (almost all in different trips to Las Vegas) — except the Beatles one, which I’ve skipped. I jumped on the opportunity to get front row seats to the latest one, BAZZAR, that played under a big top outside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. I was traveling all that week. I literally managed to fly back into Tampa Airport just an hour or so before showtime, drove straight to the venue, parked, and got seated barely 5 minutes before the show started. Even though the 2-hours long BAZZAR was great fun, to me it was still a fraction as mind-blowing as Delerium was 17 years ago. However, I am so glad I got to reconnect with Cirque - in an arena setting - basically where my appreciation for it started, in Florida. © 2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Florida #TampaBay #StPetersburg #TropicanaField #entertainment #culture #circus #concert #stage #CirqueDuSoleil #BAZZAR #memories #history #travel #gratitudeThe Stage Is (The) Set - IMRAN™ Yes! Commemorating 50 Years Anniversary Of Reading & Watching "The Godfather" In Pakistan - IMRAN™ When and where did you read Mario Puzo's novel "The Godfather"? If you did not read it, did you watch the movie? I remember reading the incredible novel as a pre-teen in Karachi, Pakistan. That was also when I first started trying to learn foreign languages German and French (in addition to English of course). But I did not get to become consistent in learning French until I started using DuoLingo daily since the last 3 years. There is so much French literature and poetry I want to understand and appreciate. I remember learning that besides the novel opening with the epigraph, "Behind every great fortune there is a crime. - Balzac" another of the most quoted lines in movie history, Don Corleone’s unforgettable statement, “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse” is an almost word for word translation of dialog from Balzac's novel, Father Goriot. That was written in 1835, more than 100 years before The Godfather! In the 1970s, Hollywood movies used to take a much longer tine to reach developing countries' cinemas. That is a far cry from today. I loved seeing Top Gun Maverick in IMAX with my family in my birthday visit to Lahore last year, literally the day it also hit theaters in the USA. However, The Godfather movie, made in 1972, did not get into theaters in Pakistan until later. Even then I was among the first to see it. I was amazed at how well made it was and it remains a classic to this day. Fifty years go by so fast. I felt it would be fun to salute to the novel and the movie with this T-shirt half-a-century later. © 2023 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #MarioPuzo #TheGodFather #books #literature #movies #history #French #languages #travel #childhood #BalzacCommemorating 50 Years Anniversary Of Reading & Watching "The Godfather" In Pakistan - IMRAN™ When and where did you read Mario Puzo's novel "The Godfather"? Inspirational Portrait Of A Lone One-Footed Determined Seagull At Bellport Marina Long Island New York Winter 2010 - IMRAN™ December of 2010 was a period of immense complexity, not just for me, but for countless others as well. The economic fallout from the Republican Bush era, marked by a near-depression and financial meltdown, still lingered heavily. While the recovery efforts under President Obama were beginning to show some promise, dark clouds continued to loom on the economic horizon. There was a sense of cautious optimism, a belief that brighter days were on the way, yet the looming presence of sunsets – both literal and metaphorical – served as a constant reminder of the challenges that lay ahead. It was during this first week of December 2010 that I had ridden my motorcycle to Bellport Marina, not far from my home on the Great South Bay of Long Island. That is where I encountered this lone, confident, one-footed seagull. As I took the photo, with Fire Island & Old Inlet in the background, it gazed back at me. The creature, much like me and countless others, had endured its own injuries, leaving it seemingly debilitated. Yet, despite these altered circumstances that had been thrust upon it, this seagull refused to surrender. It maintained a proud stance, continuing to navigate life as best it could. It inspired me to take its portrait with the iPhone 4 which I had at the time. The weathered wooden edge of the pier mirrored the precariousness of the times, a constant threat of tipping over the edge and into oblivion. However, with a different mental vantage point, it could also be interpreted as a beckoning step, an invitation to take flight and soar towards a realm brimming with new possibilities. To this day, more than a dozen years later, I am incredibly grateful for the perspective this encounter offered. The seagull served as a powerful reminder to approach challenges with a one-step-at-a-time mentality, a testament to the enduring power of hope and the unwavering spirit of pursuing one's dreams, no matter the obstacles. So, whatever challenges you may face, never give up hope, never surrender your dreams. Stand, even if it is on just one foot, and take that next step to achieving your goals. © 2010-2024 IMRAN™Inspirational Portrait Of A Lone One-Footed Determined Seagull At Bellport Marina Long Island New York Winter 2010 - IMRAN™ December of 2010 was a period of immense complexity, not just for me, but for countless others as well. Stunning Sunset, As Day Turns To Night So Do The Gradients Of Life From Start To End – IMRAN™ Just as quickly as a day ends and turns to night, all the days of our lives fly by so fast. Then, suddenly, we are facing the end of our days and facing the eternal night. How we feel at that moment is a summation of how we had chosen to spend the day. With a well-spent, joyful, gratitude-filled attitude throughout the day, even when we face the night, we can celebrate the sunset. Rather than being afraid of the dark, we can appreciate the gradient of experiences that spanned the day from morning to evening, and all our lives since birth until that moment. The breathtakingly smooth gradients of sunset colors filled the sky across Tampa Bay at my Apollo Beach home. We can see beauty and brilliance even when a deep sark sea is all around. Every sunset I have been blessed to experience is a reminder of that choice. The breathtakingly smooth gradients of sunset colors filled the sky across Tampa Bay at my Apollo Beach home. This is a panorama from half-a-dozen handheld photos I captured in the fall of 2018. They were taken with the Nikon D850, a gift from a beautiful beloved in 2016. I only got around to posting it today. It is from the nearly 100,000 moments of magic I have captured in my life and may never have enough time in one lifetime to post with stories like this. Billy Joel / Sting / Tampa Stadium - Triple Play Of Firsts In One Night - IMRAN™ I’ve known Billy Joel songs since the late 1970s, when I was literally a little boy in Karachi, Pakistan. I’ve appreciated Sting’s talent, lyrics, and music since the start. In 1980 Police songs like Don’t Stand So Close To Me made me love the band and artist. Over the years, Sting’s solo later year songs have become even more special to me. Desert Rose and The Book Of My Life are masterpieces I can’t get enough of for their resonance with my soul. Yet, I had not been to any of their concerts in the half century I’ve gotten to love these performers’ songs and talent more and more. Meanwhile, I’ve called Tampa Bay home for a dozen years but had never made it to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play. Finally, I had a hat-trick or triple-play of firsts. What fun to see both legends, Billy Joel and Sting, do a joint concert in Tampa, Florida Saturday night, 02/24/24, at the Bucs stadium. I had made reservations months ago. It was quite cold tonight, putting me in a New York State Of Mind. On top of it being a clear night, it was all happening live under a full moon. Grateful and blessed at another wonderful experience in The Book Of My Life. Have you seen them in concert? Found! World’s Worst KFC & Planet’s $#!TT!€$T Chicken Meal - IMRAN™ I was in nonstop meetings since this morning, so I had no choice nearby when I got famished for lunch. So I went in to the. KFC Sun City Center. Not one person was in line at 2:40 pm but I had to wait 20 minutes to place my order. They seem to profit from scammy “mistakes”. Every single person who picked up previous orders while I waited found something major missing from their orders. Every single one! If you make the mistake of going here… Check everything. They likely deliberately cheat customers. My 3 piece meal was completely cold and the chicken legs were tiny, hard & dry. Only way to enjoy such chicken drumsticks is to imagine you’re having French fried frog’s legs. It was $12 for “food” even my dogs would turn up their noses at. I literally spat out the Pepsi from the fountain that had a sickening mix of weak carbonated water and leftover syrup from containers likely running on empty. Single crappiest chicken and worst KFC anywhere, it’s right here at KFC Ruskin. Two Different Moods Of Same Magical Moment At Tranquil Late Night Key West Harbor - IMRAN™ One late dark and tranquil cool night, walking along the deserted Key West harbor, I captured several beautiful moments and scenes. This one was interesting. Some photographers will post the same photo with multiple edits. I usually try to convey the mood of the moment I captured by posting just one version with the least editing possible. In this case, I am sharing two versions (together) with a very slight difference in brightness. Can you see how the two pictures convey two different moods? The first one conveys to me a sense of solitude, and tranquility, a time of quiet reflection (although, ironically, the image has fewer actual reflections). The second feels a bit more of a walk along a touristy boardwalk looking at beautiful boats in a popular travel destination. Which one do you like more? That is why I always say, how we want to feel about any given moment in life is as much based on what exists and is visible to us as it is based on how we choose to see things, how we choose to respond, how to choose to feel. Happiness is not always possible in every single circumstance. However, living a life full of happiness and joy are choices within our minds and souls. What do you think? Do you feel the images convey other emotions and ideas? © 2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Florida #FloridaKeys #sunset #winter #travelogue #travel #leisure #seaside #beach #boating #harbor #yachting #boats #yachts #marina #lifestyle #luxury #boardwalk #night #sky #tourism #philosophy #photography #happiness #tranquilityTwo Different Moods Of Same Magical Moment At Tranquil Late Night Key West Harbor - IMRAN™ One late dark and tranquil cool night, walking along the deserted Key West harbor, I captured several beautiful moments and scenes. Intriguing Steak, Underwhelming Sides: Wagyu Filet Mignon at Tavern N Town Marriott Beachside Key West - IMRAN™ The 8oz Wagyu filet mignon was a "special" at Tavern N Town, nestled within the Marriott Beachside Resort in Key West next to the grand lobby, when I stayed there recently. It was certainly intriguing. Although it did not live up to its high recommendations, the steak itself was decent - tender, flavorful, and cooked as I like it. However, for the hefty more than $100 price tag wth tax and tip (especially considering no drinks or desserts were included), my expectations were for a much more sumptuous experience. While the service was commendable, the dryness of the steak and the boring sides left me dissatisfied. The portion of sautéed mushrooms was meager, and the accompanying peppers, though well-presented, weren't quite the ideal pairing for a filet mignon in my humble opinion. Mashed potatoes would have been a more satisfying (and classic) complement. Compared to Prime Steakhouse in town, Tavern N Town's offering fell significantly short. Prime Steakhouse offered a wider variety and more exciting choices, truly complementing their exceptional steak, which itself was far superior to this one. If you're staying at the Marriott Beachside and hankering for a good steak, Tavern N Town won't disappoint. However, for the ultimate price-to-taste satisfaction, venture out to Prime Steakhouse for a more complete and memorable dining experience. © 2024 IMRAN™ #bokeh, #dinner, #dining, #filetmignon, #finedining, #Florida, #FloridaKeys, #foodreview, #IMRAN, #KeyWest, #Marriott, #resort, #restaurant, #foodie, #review, #steak, #Travel, #travelogueIntriguing Steak, Underwhelming Sides: Wagyu Filet Mignon at Tavern N Town Marriott Beachside Key West - IMRAN™ The 8oz Wagyu filet mignon was a "special" at Tavern N Town, nestled within the Marriott Beachside Resort in Key West next to the grand lobby, when I stayed there recently. Virgin Pina Colada, Every New City (VPC ENC) Nearly 4 Decades - IMRAN™ The first ever Virgin Pina Colada I had was in Frankfurt, in then-called West Germany. It was during my first ever visit abroad from Pakistan. I was 24 years old. I was a guest of the West German government as a young but influential journalist and business manager at The Jang Media Group. I’m grateful that my friend & mentor, and also then-boss, media tycoon Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman helped make that happen. The city of Frankfurt was basically asleep with all shops and stores apparently closed by 6 pm. I was too excited to wait for the next day to be chaperoned around town. I set off exploring the city with the typical basic one-sheet overview map from the hotel lobby. I walked around for hours and miles. Or kilometers to be more metric-ally correct. It was a surprisingly hopping dance club that I stumbled upon on a dark street late at night. I was savoring the high-energy music and people-watching. The bartender, who by coincidence was a young Pakistani-German, asked me what I wanted to drink. I replied that I didn’t drink alcohol. We got into a conversation as did his work too. Later he insisted on making me a virgin pina colada on the house. Appearing to be a solo tourist in a new city, in a new country, even a new continent to me, I was also wary of the risks of being drugged and robbed. So I was very careful in watching every movement around me. Interestingly the bartender also didn’t drink. He even showed me how the drink was made to adjust for the alcohol not added to it. He then served it to me in a large beautiful glass with all the fixings. Pineapple slices, cherry, beautiful & colorful paper umbrella, and a long-burning sparkler. The drink was almost too beautiful to want to drink and finish. But I did. And it was absolutely delicious. Since then, I have tried to have a virgin pina colada in every new city I have been to. I have done that for the last nearly four decades. This was the one I ordered poolside at the Marriott Beachside Resort in my first ever visit to Key West in the Florida Keys last weekend. It was decent, even above average. But I can’t complain as it complimentary. More importantly, it continued the tradition I’ve been blessed to have in my life…. VPC ENC. 35 Years Late, Eternally Grateful “I” Is Here! - IMRAN™ Manhattan holds a special place in my heart, ever since my MBA days at Columbia. But what many don't know is that Florida has been a constant presence in my life for the past 35 years. My American Christmas and New Year's debut unfolded in Miami, 1989. Gracious Annette B., from the Council for International Visitors (I wonder if it still exists!), hosted me. Many loving memories linger from that organization. Annette's son, Mark, whizzed me around Miami and even treated me to my first Florida boat ride – a picture of us somewhere captures that moment. He pointed towards Key West signs on the highway, but time constraints kept us from exploring further. Years later, 15 years to be exact, fate reconnected me with Annette's daughter, Tania. Our relationship blossomed for two years, ending around this time in 2009 – another 15-year marker. One of Tania's many thoughtful gifts was a thrilling plane ride over the Florida Keys. Soaring with her to Marathon for a seaside lunch and aerial sightseeing was unforgettable. Yet, the iconic drive across the 7-mile bridge remained tantalizingly unfulfilled. Three and a half decades after Mark's highway tease and 15 years after parting ways with Tania, I finally seized the opportunity. This weekend, I embarked on a road trip from my Tampa Bay haven, culminating in Key West under perfect weather. Gratitude washes over me as I savor this moment. My beloved parents instilled in us the value of cherishing memories and appreciating even those from the distant past. So,this journey is also an ode to the wonderful Banens of Miami, even though decades have separated us. And with an even deeper sense of gratitude, I proclaim: 35 years late, but "I" am finally here! © 1989-2024 IMRAN™ #IMRAN #Florida #Miami #FloridaKeys #KeyWest #memories #autobiography #gratitude #blessed #travel #GulfOfMexico #travelogue35 Years Late, Eternally Grateful “I” Is Here! - IMRAN™ Manhattan holds a special place in my heart, ever since my MBA days at Columbia. Random Casual DJI M3P Drone Testing 360x360° Selfie Indoors Saturday Night With GSDs- IMRAN™ DJI is a strange company. They have really been the Apple Inc. of the drone industry for consumers in terms of leading in design and product capabilities. But, even as they innovate with their products, the reliability of manufacturing and quality of customer experience is very poor. EVERY single drone I have bought from DJI has had to go back for factory repair or replacement almost immediately after purchase. It has been very frustrating to buy products worth about $1500-2000 in total with batteries etc. and then finding out that the camera does not work from Day 1. Then having to waste time and energy of getting an RMA, then driving to ship it off, then waiting for a repair to be done. It is also annoying not knowing if I will get my brand-new drone back or someone else's refurbished unit. Waiting for the drone to be sent back, excitedly opening it, and THEN finding out that the repair was done but they pulled an internal cable off the frame. So, it had to be sent back a second time. When it came back the second time, I did a test flight on a perfectly still, zero wind day on Tampa Bay. I found that it was now stitching terrible 360x360 panoramas. The horizon, various structures, and other elements were poorly aligned all over the image. Their customer service people have been very helpful. However, the reliability of the product is terrible. They told me to do all kinds of resets and calibrations on the drone, and to reset everything, and format the SD card etc. So, I did all that. To test the panorama stitching with absolutely zero wind, I had it take off inside the drawing room last night. As I said, zero wind, zero fan, zero AC, zero fireplace, zero sunlight, zero moonlight, zero movement in the room. And yet it did such a terrible job that I am sure I have to send it back to them a THIRD time. That is just atrocious customer experience, IMHO. In the meantime, I decided to clean up the poor stitching enough to share this casual weekend late night scene with you all. My dogs did not even move but got chopped. You can see how I tried to clean up that poor stitching if you look closely at some of the things I did not bother with, e.g. the curtains, parts of the ceiling, etc. DJI may be frustrating, but I am so grateful for everything else. Thanks for reading the story and letting me share a moment of my gratitude-filled and blessed life. © 2024 IMRAN™Random Casual DJI M3P Drone Testing 360x360° Selfie Indoors Saturday Night With GSDs- IMRAN™ DJI is a strange company. What Happens When 3D Brain Printers Run Out Of Inks!? - IMRAN™

God help us. First #3D-printed functional human #brain tissue has been created by scientists.
There are some people I would gladly gift such 3D Brain printers to. 😃 Maybe their brains were created with printers made by sleazy companies like Canon that deliberately brick entire multifunction devices’ scanner & fax parts under the evil ruse of expired print heads.
This news item from Interesting Engineering is both exciting and terrifying. “#Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are the first to develop the 3D-printed brain tissue, which grows and behaves like a natural brain tissue.
The group used a new 3D-printing method, stacking layers of tissue horizontally rather than vertically and using a softer bio-ink. The model will allow scientists to better study #neurological diseases, including #Alzheimers and #Parkinsons.”
What are your thoughts (from your hopefully non-3D printed 🧠) brain?😊
