Manhattan Moments: Bright & Beautiful New Terminals At LIRR - IMRAN™ Having arrived in Manhattan for the first time in 1987, I witnessed the era of decline and decay that New York City went through since the late 1970s. Lousy and incompetent self-serving mayors like Ed Koch and economic challenges made NYC shabby and disappointing. This was true especially at train stations and airports. I am so happy to see the incredible progress of the last 35 years. In addition to the improvements to Kennedy and now LaGuardia Airports by the port authority, even the MTA (metropolitan transit authority) has done a great job in building new terminals plus improving and modernizing older ones. This is one random example. It is a quick handheld panorama photo of a Long Island Rail Road platform entrance. Bright, colorful, airy, welcoming, clean.
