Israel Celebrates New Year With Palestinian Genocide, Before Obama Takes Office

Israel's blockades and targeted killings were Hamas' excuse to shoot rockets into Israel.

Maybe 5 Israelis killed in 2 years. Israel has killed nearly 1000 Palestinians in just a few days, mostly civilians and many children.

Who's responsible, and what needs to be done?

Strong opinions. Responses welcome whether you agree or disagree.

what has number of people killed got to do with right or wrong. In WW2 more number of germans were killed than any other nation. Just FYI

You're kidding, right? By that token, Israel killing one innocent child is worse than Hitler killing whatever number of Jews he supposedly killed. OK, fine.

BTW, not that I am a history major, but I think more Russians died in WWII than Germans.

I'm very surprised at you Imran. Please don't lose all credibility like you have done today.

I am no longer in Gaza today and my family members were shot by Hamas and Hamas said they were worried that my family would help fight against Hamas which has held my people hostage in Gaza. I'm sure you have heard abotu Hamas shooting Fatah members and their families in the arms and legs and there are also kidnapings taking place as I type this.

You know that real Egyptians and Palestinians living in Gaza want Hamas to be eliminated. We are being used as human shields and I was lucky to get out. I have told my situation to many news outlets and we'll see if they report this reality that is taking place on the ground.

Israel is the least of our problems to be honest! Hamas is using us as human shields and is responsible for all civilian death on the strip.

After Israel left Gaza we had a chance to self govern. You falsely reported on Hamas beging given some kind of excuse? I assume that your whole blog entry was somehow sarcastic or a spoof making fun of reality because that is the only way I am not offended by the falsehoods contained within your post.

Additionally, please, if you know whatis going on, tell as many people as possible that Hamas is holding our people hostage and they are using us (my family!) as human shields.

Hamas had no right or as you said "excuse" (I can't believe you used the word excuse as if it's ok to kill innocent people and shoot rockets pointed at cites; rockets that exploded in kindergartens day after day!!!!

Please tell me you were joking.

Your post is full of falsehoods.

Israel left Gaza years ago!

Hamas killed innocent people in Israel (how would you like it if you or your child was one of those killed) in an unprovoked eight year attack by pointing rockets in the direction of israel and making them as lethal as possible to kill as many people. You are saying that because Hamas was not skilled, that they didn't kill as many people as they hoped to. Innocent people!@!!!!!1

What is wrong with you?

You need to know that Obama said that if a rocket was pointed at a country/state and his daughters were sleeping in a home in that stater, Obama would do whatever it takes to shut down those terrorists who target innocent civilians.YOU know anyone would and King Hussein in Jordan did exactly that!!!

IN September 1970, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacked three planes to the Jordanian desert about 50 kilometers east of Amman. This was the final straw for King Hussein, who was made to look impotent and powerless as the sovereignty of his country was violated so blatantly. On September 15, after all but 54 hostages from those planes were released, King Hussein set out to reestablish his reign and bring an end to the terror and chaos that had engulfed his country.

Over the next 10 days, he waged an aggressive war against the terrorists, killing about 2,500 and wounding several thousand more. The Arab world was in an uproar, calling him an aggressor. President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt was angry at Hussein and warned of "grave consequences" if he did not stop the fighting. Syria in fact invaded Jordan to aid the Palestinians, and Iraq threatened to do the same. But Hussein persisted, despite being pained and conflicted by what he was doing. He saw the fighting as "a cancer operation that had to be performed to save Jordan's life" and made very clear - by appointing a prime minister of Palestinian origin and through other means - that he was not waging a war against the Palestinian people, but was merely fighting terrorists.

In the end, Hussein prevailed. After a cease-fire to end the war, he continued his battle against the PLO over the ensuing 10 months until July 1971, when he succeeded in ousting it and all its terror constituents from the country. (They moved to Lebanon, where they once again began to terrorize not only Israel, but their host country.) For the next 30-plus years, Jordan knew no more terror.

You asked for strong opinions positive or negative, pro or against your lies reported in your blog entry but yes you fail to include posted comments!

How would you like it if Youtube rejected your video?

Add one more atrocity to the blood- soaked history of Hamas: Yesterday, the cowardly brotherhood managed to kill dozens of Palestinian civilians at a UN school in Gaza.

And it used Israeli armor to get the job done.

Israeli tanks, it's true, fired on the school, which the UN says it operated as a refuge for civilians - but only after coming under fire from the school.

Indeed, Israeli soldiers reportedly found dead Hamas fighters and their weapons in the building's rubble, along with the bodies of scores of civilians, as the ground assault against Hamas positions outside Gaza City continued.

No surprise there.

Heavy civilian casualties would be entirely in keeping with Hamas' longstanding practice of using women, children and the elderly as human shields.

Which means that responsibility for the deaths lies squarely at their feet.

The contrast couldn't be greater: Israel has taken all steps to avoid civilian casualties, including extensive leafletting and sending text messages to Palestinians near its Hamas targets, while Hamas seems bent on seeing as many of its own people as possible die.

There is a purpose to such barbarism.

Recall that similar civilian casualties - precipitated by similar enemy cowardice - helped bring international pressure against Israel to prematurely end its war against Hezbollah in 2006.

Hamas, and its paymasters in Tehran, are hoping for a similar outcome this time around. That musn't be allowed.

Indeed, Hamas' willingness to terrorize its own people, let alone Israeli civilians, is all the more reason for Israel to effect the organization's speedy destruction - and for the world to support such an outcome.

And, lest anyone forget Hamas' ultimate intentions, a spokesman yesterday called on Islamists to target Jewish children around the world.

"They have legitimized the murder of their own children by killing the children of Palestine," he said.

That's about as evil, and cowardly, a statement as they come - even if it weren't so preposterous.

Hamas good? Israel bad?

Where was your blog for eight years and while Israel had pulled out of Gaza and Hamas thanked them by pointing rockets at teir southern cties?????

You were silent. Fail.

Let us see what has happened since Israel acquiesced by turning Gaza back over to the Palestinians. Back then, I understood the turnover to be an olive branch, of sorts, extended to the Palestinians in return for peace. A mere three weeks later, the Palestinians thanked the Israelis by sending 35 "Thank You Cards", each attached to a Katyusha rockets into Israel. When this occurred I wrote a scathing post on a political discussion website condemning Ariel Sharon for not responding immediately with the kind of assault from Israel we are witnessing today. The rockets from Gaza have not stopped going into Israel in the ensuing three years since then.

One news service or another has reported every rocket launch from Gaza during this time. The reportage may have been a blurb somewhere or big coverage on the nightly news but, never the less, it has been documented. The Israelis would, indeed, during this period strike out into Gaza but never anything beyond letting the air out of a few Hamas thugs. The strikes were akin to a series of small eruptions from a very active volcano until, one day, the top blows off. For better or worse, I believe that day arrived two weeks ago.

My question to Israel's critics is simply this: Why are you only reacting with such righteous indignation to this cataclysmic eruption when you were so silent during the small warning eruptions over the last three years? Why did you not storm the UN with pleas to have the thugs in Gaza stop their rocket attacks?

what a joke you are and the USA lets you spew hatred?

You're lucky you are free to lie!

In Gaza Hamas would shoot you in the leg immediately.

Facts are Facts. The Palestinian terrorists use women and children to kill women and children. The Palestinian terrorists hide behind women and children to save themselves. This shows a cowardice greater than any seen in modern history. It seems they are only capable of spewing their lies and hate through propaganda, but not willing to fight openly. Coward is too kind a word.

its called war. One nation takes on another to kill them. Simple as that. General Sherman once said the easiest and best peace comes from killing ones enemy so they cant rise up and attack again. The strategy seems to work. Look at Germany and Japan, we did not go half way in WWII, we destroyed them and they now like peace. Same with the West and Israel, go after the enemies, who have said they want to obliterate the judeo-Christian world and culture and replace it with thier world-view, and wipe them out completly. The Israelis should take the gloves off, and we should help them.

We can forgive you for killing our sons. But we will never forgive you for making us kill yours." -Golda Meir

OK so for 8 years rckets have been shot into Israel and have hit schools and kindergartens. They have also killed people. What if one of those people was your father before his recent death, of course?

Imran- that's only one person, right? Who cares if a rocket landed on your home and killed your father if that is just one person? Isn't that what you are saying?

Your logic holds no water, my friend.

Hamas is shooting from buildings where Hamas forces civilians to stay. Then if a democratic nation defending themselves strikes back, Hamas shows off the civilian deaths. Nice Imran?

Do you approve?

Nice sweetheart. I bet you and me can sit down and solve all of these problems but instead you chose to buy the propoganda instead!

Human shields is a serious problem but you are making a joke out of these innocent people by failing to blame Hamas when in fact Hamas is responsible for killing innocent people every day!

Sorry, there were no targeting killings during the cease fire whch was broken by Hamas by the way..don't you know Iran is dictating this and the palestians are their pawns?
Can you be this clueless my friend?

Heavy civilian casualties would be entirely in keeping with Hamas' longstanding practice of using women, children and the elderly as human shields.

Please take the time to learn about Iran's role in all of this and stop jumping on the blame Israel bandwagon. it does not put you in a positive or intelligent light, Imran

Please learn about what is happening in Gaza before you blame Israel. You forgot to mention that Israel left Gaza and then was the recipient of rockets pointed at their civilians within days of the withdrawal.

You need to read this now, my friend:

Now that you have read this, you can form opinions while having some of the facts understood.

el's military actions in Gaza are entirely justified under international law, and Israel should be commended for its act of self-defense against international terrorism. Article 51 of the United Nations Charter reserves to every nation the right to engage in self-defense against armed attacks. The only limitation international law places on a democracy is that its actions must satisfy the principle of proportionality. Israel's actions certainly satisfy that principles.

When Barack Obama visited the city of Sderot this summer, he saw the same things that I had seen during my visit on March 20 of this year. Over the last four years, Palestinian terrorists - in particular, Hamas and Islamic Jihad - have fired more than two thousand rockets at this civilian area, which is home to mostly poor and working-class people. The rockets are designed exclusively to maximize civilian deaths, and some have barely missed schoolyards, kindergartens, hospitals, and school buses. But others hit their targets, killing more than a dozen civilians since 2001, including in February 2008 a father of four who had been studying at the local university. These anticivilian rockets have also injured and traumatized countless children.

The residents of Sderot have fifteen seconds from the launch of the rocket to run into a shelter. The rule is that everyone must always be within fifteen seconds of a shelter, regardless of what they are doing. Shelters are everywhere, but the aged and the physically challenged often have difficulty making it to safety. On the night I was in Sderot, a rocket landed nearby, but there had been no "red alert." The warning system is far from foolproof.

In most parts of the world, the first words learned by toddlers are "mommy" and "daddy." In Sderot, they are "red alert." The police chief of Sderot showed me hundreds of rocket fragments that had been recovered. Many bore the name of the terrorist group that had fired the deadly missiles. Although firing deliberately to kill civilians is a war crime, the terrorists who fired at the civilians of Sderot were proud enough of their crimes to "sign" their murderous weapons. They know that in the real world in which we live, they will never be prosecuted for their murders and attempted murders.

Barack Obama reacted to what he had seen in Sderot by saying that if his two daughters were exposed to rocket attacks in their own homes, he would do everything in his power to stop such attacks. I hope and believe that President Obama will take the same position he did as candidate Obama.

The residents of Sderot were demanding that their nation take action to protect them. Most seem to agree with the Israeli decision to end its occupation of the Gaza Strip, to withdraw its soldiers and settlers despite the reality that during the occupation, rocket attacks increased against the residents of Sderot. But Israel's post-occupation military options were limited, since Hamas deliberately fires its deadly rockets from densely populated urban areas, and the Israeli Army has a strict policy of trying to avoid civilian casualties.

The firing of rockets at civilians from densely populated civilian areas is the newest tactic in the war between terrorists who love death and democracies that love life. The terrorists have learned how to exploit the morality of democracies against those who do not want to kill civilians, even enemy civilians. In one recent incident, Israeli intelligence learned that a particular house was being used to manufacture and store rockets. It was a clear military target since their rockets were being fired at Israeli civilians. But the house was also being lived in by a family. So the Israeli military phoned the house, informed the owner that it was a military target, and gave him thirty minutes to leave with his family before the house was attacked. The owner called Hamas, which immediately sent dozens of mothers carrying babies to stand on the roof of the house. Hamas knew that Israel would never fire at a home with civilians in it. They also knew that if, by some fluke, the Israeli authorities did not learn that there were civilians in the house, and fired on it, Hamas would win a public relations victory by displaying the dead civilians to the media. In this case, Israel did learn of the civilians and withheld its fire. The rockets that were spared destruction by the human shields were then used against Israeli civilians.

This, in a nutshell, is the dilemma faced by democracies with a high level of morality. The Hamas tactic would not have worked against the Russians in Chechnya. When the Russians were fired upon, they fired against civilians without hesitation. Nor would it work in Darfur, where janjaweed militias have killed thousands of civilians and displaced 2.5 million in order to get the rebels who were hiding among them. Certain tactics work only against moral enemies who care deeply about minimizing civilian casualties.

Over the past months, a shaky cease-fire, organized by Egypt was in effect. Hamas agreed to stop the rockets and Israel agreed to stop taking military action against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The cease-fire itself was morally dubious and legally asymmetrical.

Israel, in effect, was saying to Hamas: if you stop engaging in the war crime of targeting our innocent civilians, we will stop engaging in the entirely lawful military acts of targeting your terrorists. Under the cease-fire, Israel reserved the right to engage in self-defense actions such as attacking terrorists who were in the course of firing rockets at its civilians.

Just before the hostilities began, Israel offered Hamas both a carrot and a stick. Israel reopened checkpoints to allow humanitarian aid to reenter Gaza. It had closed these point of entry after they had been targeted by Gaza rockets. Israel's prime minister also issued a stern, final warning to Hamas that unless it stopped the rockets, there would be a full scale military response. This is the way Reuters reported it:

Israel reopened border crossings with the Gaza Strip on Friday, a day after Prime Minister warned militants there to stop firing rockets or they would pay a heavy price. Despite the movement of relief supplies, militants fired about a dozen rockets and mortar shafts from Gaza at Israel on Friday. One accidentally struck a house in Gaza, killing two Palestinian sisters, ages 5 and 13...the deliveries could ease the tensions that might have led to a military action to end the rocket attacks. Palestinian workers at the crossings said fuel had arrived for Gaza's main power plant and about a hundred trucks loaded with grain, humanitarian aid and other goods were expected during the day."

The Hamas rockets continued and Israel kept its word, implementing a carefully prepared targeted air attack against Hamas targets.

On Sunday, I spoke to the Air Force General, now retired, who worked on the planning of the attack. He told me of the intelligence and planning that had gone into preparing for the contingency that the military option might become necessary. The Israeli Air Force had pinpointed with precision the exact locations of Hamas structures, in an effort to minimize civilian casualties. Even Hamas sources acknowledged that the vast majority of those killed have been Hamas terrorists though some civilian casualties are inevitable when--as BBC's Rushdi Abou Alouf, who is certainly not pro Israel--reported that "the Hamas security compounds are in the middle of the city." Indeed his home balcony from which he observed the bombing of a compound was 20 meters from that military target.

There have been three types of international response to the Israeli military actions against the Hamas rockets. Not surprisingly, Iran, Hamas, and other knee-jerk Israeli-bashers have argued that the Hamas rocket attacks against Israeli civilians are entirely legitimate, and that the Israeli counterattacks are war crimes. Equally unsurprising is the response of the United Nations, the European Union, Russia, and others who, at least when it comes to Israel, see a moral and legal equivalence between terrorists who target civilians and a democracy that responds by targeting the terrorists.

The most dangerous of the three responses is not the Iranian-Hamas absurdity, which is largely ignored by thinking and moral people, but the United Nations and European Union response, which equate the willful murder of civilians with legitimate self-defense pursuant to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. This false moral equivalence only encourages terrorists to persist in their unlawful actions against civilians. The United States has it exactly right by placing the blame on Hamas, while urging Israel to do everything possible to minimize civilian casualties.

There are some who claim that Israel has violated the principle of proportionality by killing so many more Hamas terrorists than the number of Israeli civilians killed by Hamas rockets. That is an absurd misapplication of the concept of proportionality for at least two reasons.

First, there is no legal equivalence between the deliberate killing of innocent civilians and the deliberate killings of Hamas combatants. Under the laws of war, any number of combatants can be killed to prevent the killing of even one innocent civilian.

Second, proportionality is not measured by the number of civilians actually killed, but rather by the risk of civilian death and the intentions of those targeting civilians. Hamas seeks to kill as many civilians as it can. It aims its rockets in the general direction of schools, hospitals, playgrounds and other entirely civilian targets. The fact that it has not killed as many civilians as it would have liked to is a tribute to Israel's enormous devotion of resources to the building of shelters and to the construction of early warning systems.

Hamas, on the other hand, refuses to build shelters, precisely because it wants to maximize the number of Palestinian civilians inadvertently killed by Israel's military actions. It knows, from experience, that when it forces Israel to take military actions that result in the deaths of even a small number of innocent Palestinian civilians, many in the international community will condemn Israel. Israel understands this sad reality as well, and goes to enormous lengths to reduce the number of civilian casualties, even to the point of foregoing legitimate targets that are too close to civilian areas. Accordingly, Israel's actions satisfy the principle of proportionality as well as the principle of self-defense against armed attack.

Until and unless the United Nations and the rest of the international community recognize that Hamas is committing three war crimes--targetting Israeli civilians, using their own civilians as human shields and seeking the destruction of a member state of the United Nations--and that Israel is acting in self-defense and out of military necessity, the conflict will continue and perhaps escalate. If Israel succeeds in destroying the terrorist organization Hamas, it may well lay the foundation for a real peace between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. But if Hamas persists in its capacity to target increasing numbers of Israeli citizens, Israel will have no choice but to persist in its self-defense efforts.

No democracy would do otherwise and even the good man, Imran knows this fact. Thank you.

Jan. 7,

manitarian aid. Israel will suspend attacks in certain areas – though not the entire territory - to allow people to get supplies. The measure took immediate effect. Ashkelon took 4 rockets as the Israeli pause began.
Hamas' missile fire continued. More food, medicines and fuel supplies entered Gaza from Israel Wednesday.

Hamas is forcing civilians to stay in property and buildings where Hamas is shooting from. Hamas' use of human shields is not new but this practice is responsible for the civilian deaths.

Who else would call people in the home, drop thousands of fliers and ask people to leave before attacks commence? Israel literally gives their intentions and positions away in order to help move civilians out of harm's way Imran.

Cairo presented Hamas with an ultimatum to reply to Egypt's ceasefire proposals by 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. That night, Israel launched a massive air and artillery assault on Hamas arms smuggling tunnels running under the Philadelphi route along the Egyptian border and adjoining houses in Rafah. Leaflets dropped in advance by the Israeli air force warned the 30,000 dwellers in the targeted region to leave their homes.

A rocket hit a 3 month old infant Imran but according to your blog presentation, that is just one person right?

What if it was your baby, my friend?

Hamas' Southern Brigade is deployed in this strategic sector of the southern Gaza Strip under the command of a high-ranking Hamas commander called Al-Attar. Its operatives tried and failed to stem the flight from the Yibne and Block O Rafah refugee camps and Rafah's Tel Sultan
DEBKAfile's military sources report that Israel has been pounding this Hamas lifeline for arms supplies and reinforcements by air and sea for days. Dozens of tunnels were demolished but enough of the system remained for Hamas to restore it if given the chance. With the new assault Israel is determined to destroy the entire network for good.
For Hamas-Damascus and Hamas-Gaza alike, bowing to the Egyptian ultimatum and accepting the proposal intelligence minister Gen. Omar Suleiman put before its representatives in Cairo
Tuesday would be seen as a surrender to the Israeli Defense Forces.
The ultimatum may have been coordinated with the Israeli assault on the tunnels.
Israeli defense ministry official Amos Gilad and Olmerts envoy Yoram Turbovitch fly to Cairo Thursday to start talks on Egypt's ceasefire proposals.
DEBKAfile also discloses that the Israeli prime minister sent his political adviser Shalom Turjman to Washington Wednesday night.

Imran as you know, Israel was attacked for eight years and Hamas has been firing rckets directly AT CIVILIANS all this time! Can you show me some of your blogs that tell about this?
Can you show me where you condemned the killing of innocent civilians by Hamas, and the bombing of schools by Hamas?

I can find that in any of you blogs or vids. Thank you.

I always thought that if someone refused to recognize my existence...vowed to destroy me...shot rockets at me...and blew themselves up on my buses and in my markets...that person wants to fight. Imran, sir, can you tell me why Hamas is using innocent human beings as human shields?> Have you ever set foot on the Gaza Strip? If , you know that a fighting force like fatah or hamas can fight a convenional war or committ war crimes by hiding behind civilians. You've seen this before. If you have been to the Gaza Strip of late, then you know that Israel not only left Gaza but also removed their own jewish setlers and left millions of dollars in hothouses which would have served the population well. Hamas shot at and demolished those too even though Israel left them. Hamas then pointed their nombs and missiles at israel cities- randomly like coward teeorists!

Who side would you be on if "your America" was atacked by Hamas.

Shame on youfor falling for arab propoganda hook, line and sinker. I like reading your blog but if you don't post this comment, I will no longer promote your blog since you are not allowing other opinions to live here unless you like the particular comment because it has typos and the like.

shame

What if Detroit was being bombarded by rocket fire from nearby Canada?" Obviously, immediate, decisive strikes would result from our side. Why ask Israel to continue to be a sitting duck?

Hamas forces them civilians to die, also by hiding behind them, using their houses to store guns and ammunition, and killing anyone who disagrees with them. Like yesterday when they were found to have shot Fatah supporters in the legs "so they cannot help Israel"--this to their OWN people. Imagine what they have in store for the rest of the world.

The worldview of Hamas extends far beyond Israel and the Jews. By its own words, it seeks global Islamic domination, the restoration of the transnational Caliphate, rejection of Western values, and the repudiation of basic human rights.

It aspires to the "utter destruction" of America.

imran, do you not live in America?

Hamas aspires to the "utter destruction" of America.

It is a saboteur of any possible move toward Arab-Israeli peace. Its closest allies are Iran, Syria and Hizbullah.

Ask journalists about Hamas' commitment to press freedom since it seized power. Ask the tiny Christian community in Gaza what life is like under radical Islamic rule. Ask women how much freedom they have, other than to produce children for the "cause," as the Hamas Covenant stipulates. Ask gays what rights they have. Ask supporters of Fatah, who were pummeled and tortured in the violent Hamas seizure of power in 2007 - and, in the past week, according to news accounts, have been killed by Hamas as possible "collaborators" with Israel - how much latitude they have.

Hamas will not agree to stop smuggling weaponry into the Gaza Strip under a new cease-fire with Israel, and the deployment of US military engineers along the Gaza-Egypt border will likely be incapable of stopping them, defense officials say.

there were around 300 active smuggling tunnels along the Philadelphi Corridor before Operation Cast Lead. Some 100 have been destroyed by the IAF. Despite the attacks, the IDF believes Hamas is still trying to smuggle new weaponry into Gaza via the tunnels throughout Rafah.

Imran There's none so blind as he that will not see

You should know that Hamas was created in 1988. Its stated goal is the destruction of Israel and its replacement by an Islamic state. Let its covenant speak for itself: "Israel, by virtue of its being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims.

Hamas will not agree to stop smuggling weaponry into the Gaza Strip under a new cease-fire with Israel.

90 rockets, most of them 122 millimeter Grads, have landed on Ashkelonn
9just one of several cities in Israel) since the start of the Gaza war. Don't forget about the other 3000 rockets fired by terrorists from Gaza this year! even though Israel left Gaza years ago!

"But when the intifada raged it raged against me. I would walk down the streets of Jerusalem suspiciously eyeing swarthy strangers, decline to ride the buses for fear of suicide bombers, and avoid crowded public places like Machane Yehuda and Zion Square. At the time I wondered what it was like for Israelis living in rural areas in the North or South of the country, more or less exempt from the constant threat of terror. Granted it was a little different. The foot soldiers of terror have a wider range than Katyusha rockets and they are deadlier, so the effect of the terror was more wide spread. Still, there were places in Israel where people were living relatively normal lives while we here in the Center, and particularly on the West Bank, were under siege, wearing bullet proof vests to drive to work and sending our kids to school in bullet proof busses."

When a woman in Ashdod is murdered by a Hamas rocket while returning from her health club, I'm saddened.
But Imran thinks thatisjust one juman life just one?

"We are secular, liberal Israelis from Asheklon, or Haifa" they contend. We live in territory ceded to the Jewish people by the United Nations. We support a withdrawal from the disputed territories. We supported the evacuation of Gaza. We support a two state solution. We are in essence, just like Europeans. Why are we being attacked?

Seth (and wife ) Sherry know what sacrificing means . Koby their eldest son was murdered simply because he was a Jew. Sovereign nations have the right, indeed the responsibility to protect themselves from enemy fire and hatred. I hate war and hate death but if someone was launching rockets at my home day after day week after week, I would be forced to defend myself. We should ask Hamas why they don"t love their children and their citizens . If we knew the answer to that question then maybe we could address their problem.

Regarding Hamas, and their suicide bombers:

I don't know a single Israeli who has not lost a member of his family, a friend, or an acquaintance, to a suicide bomber.

No democracy would do otherwise.

Bless you.

I do find it amusing that so many similar sounding comments are coming from Israel supporters who just happen to have Muslim names. I love anomalies. ;-)

Now, re-listen. I clearly state Hamas quite capable of attacking Israel as a trouble maker. Several examples of my child or my father being the target of a missile were given. You know what, if I was living in a home I stole from someone, threw his family in a concentration camp and one day came home to see he had killed my kids, I'd be angry but I'd have brought it on myself, as Israel did with the Palestinians.

Human shield use is inexcusable but bombing a whole country/region is what Israel did, not just bombing one home full of kids. Schools, mosques, homes, hospitals, nothing was spared. Zionists learnt their lessons from Hitler quite well.

FIVE Israelis died in 2 years. Fare more Americans killed by Mexican gang members in America every year. Who's with me to start shooting missiles and wiping out Mexico? Anyone?

Thanks for the comments.

How dare you say it is Ok to kill just a small amount of innocent civilians?

Death?

How dare you!

Palestinian terrorists fired several mortar shells at the Eshkol region in the western Negev again- while stuffing the rockets with rusty nails as usual to cause the most damage possible when buildings, schools and infants are hit.

The terrorists are pointing the rockets and hoping to kill as many jews as possible.

Horrible, how you can dismiss that fact.

Terrorists fired several barrages of projectiles throughout the day, including one strike that damaged a school and sports center in Ashkelon

3000 rockets were fired so far, by Hamas.

shall we mention the rockets from Lebanon now sent by Iran's other proxy?

Imran has shown that he is an anti-Semite and at best is an ignorant lying person trying to get attention. why did Imran fail to mention that Israel pulled out of Gaza years ago?

That blog is horrible.

Poor analogies.

Try this one: Would it take Mexico 3000 misiles before they finally were stopped?

What nation drops leaflets and fliers asking civilians to leave the areas where Hamas TERORISTS are operating before their forces bomb?

You are confused and you are letting your preconceived hatred guide your ignorant opinions.

I would love to meet you and discuss this in person. Invite your pro Israel and anti jewish friends if you want but you sure are a coward who fails to condemn HAMAS TERRORISTS when you say they were excusable or had an excuse.

Horrible.

Imran

Horrible!

What country are you from?

Gaza was from Egypt; you do know that, right?

Israel does not occupy and still does not want to occupy the Gaza. You must be putting us on! You can't have that much hate so as not to care how stupid you show yourself to be?

Abbas wants peace. Israel wants peace.

What do your friends in Iran and Syria want?

Take off your horse shudders and ask for help you shall receive it.

Imran Anwar, as my pakistani friends have discussed with me at length: Israel pulled out of theGaza Strip in theyear 2005. With its billions of dollars, Hamas looked to Iran for rockets instead of serving the people. Hamas now has human shields and is shooting frm civilian homes!

Hmas's terrorist acts should be seen in light of Iranian ambitions to wear down the Israeli body politic.

The PLO's Mahmoud Abbas condemns Israeli actions at the UN as intensely as he roots for the Israel Defense Forces to destroy Hamas.

Perhaps Israel has made astounding tactical mistakes, including the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza, long years of passively enduring rockets, and tacit acceptance of elaborate smuggling tunnels from Egypt to Gaza.

Israel did not "bomb a whole country". You are wrong. You are thinking of Hamas who has targeted civilians on purpose!

If you wantto bring up car accidents, drunk driving and gang deaths, you are more ignorant than I thought!!! That tis like saying that hundreds of thousands of innocent people could die and you (and Hamas) would not care one bit.

As you know, that is weak and I'm surprised at you. I have over 100 pakistani friends who would love to debate you in person. But, if they killed you, that would , by your logic, be only one person who died which is less than as you said- mexican gang killings in america!

yuck

Palestinians have proven themselves more competent at the p.r. battle than the Israeli government, winning public support from people like you who "mean well" but who have no idea what you are talking about except or your hatred.

I am still pleased to see Israel leaving Gaza as they will do again.

We weep for the children on both sides in this continuing war, but we remember that only Hamas uses children as human shields for the rocket launchers Hamas installed in their schoolyards.

Right, you should try to love your neighbors and all human beings and stop defending terrorists who perpetually set up human sheilds There is no moral equivalency so get off your high horse mate.

Learn about the Otoman empire and the British Mandate because clearly you have wet your pants with your lack of knowledge.

Your photos from Pakistan are beautiful.

"This recent outburst of violence was instigated by Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group supported by Iran and Syria that calls for Israel's destruction," Bush declared. He added that "Since Hamas's violent takeover in the summer of 2007, living conditions have worsened for Palestinians in Gaza. By spending its resources on rocket launchers instead of roads and schools, Hamas has demonstrated that it has no intention of serving the Palestinian people." -President still in white House

"If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night," he told an audience in Israel last year, "I would do everything to stop that, and would expect Israel to do the same thing." President elect Obama

Please reconsider and learn how peace can be achieved at the table while human being communicate. Please stop your kneejerk support or understanding and excusing of HAMAS TERRORISTS firing rockets every day for years.

I don't know a lot about the history of the region... I am still learning, but I do know that killing innocent people irrespective of religion and nationality is a horrible act and we can't just look away.

I also think several of those who posted comments here should watch your videocast again, because I fail to see their criticisms justified. Perhaps, they are generalizing?!

one thing I fail to understand is that why are Pakistanis so concerned about Israel/Palestine issues. What connection? We have close to insurmountable problems in Pak itself and yet every paki worries more about Israel.

well if rockets are such an issue, why not Israel ask US to deploy for them a missile defense system? provided that US already provided billions of free $$$$'s in military aid to Israel over the years,
and guess from where this money come from? US tax payer? right?

Well, time and time again history has repeated itself. The people in "power" (in any culture) do not have a strong track record of being humane toward those in lesser circumstances.
Indigenous people have been placed in camps, reservations, etc and enslaved. I am Native American and this same thing happened to my ancestors. The fact that one group of people can trounce on another solely in the name of victory is upsetting. Is one victorious for killing the helpless?
Truly, what is their reason? Why are they not able to get along...the answer is simple IGNORANCE. When people starting placing value on humanity then things will start to improve. Perhaps we have conditioned and mutated our genes so much to the extent regarding this behaviour that it is now innate within human nature. Wouldn't that be sad?
With hope for the future I cast away such thoughts and know that EACH and EVERY ONE of us has it within ourselves to make our own choices. It's time to make choices as people of the Earth, not people from one country or another. Afterall, are you really different from me? If you answer yes...then how/why?

Very well said, Bella. Thank you.

When my fellow Americans say that Jews own all of Palestine because they owned it 4000 years ago I invite them to vacate their North American homes because Native Americans owned the land 400 years ago they tend to forget the 4000 year old ownership argument.

Hope the native Americans find their voice and future again in generations like yours.

We can all keep arguing about this till our grandchildren beget great-grandchildren, but NOBODY wins in this bloody war. It's foolish to talk of who started the fight, or of who was more justified in killing people.

Don't even think that having one party (Muslim Palestinians or Israelites, depending on "which side you're on") vacate the Middle East will solve the problem. You can bet the other party will plot to renew the cycle of revenge with each defeat.

There is only one way to resolve this age-old conflict, and it's closest to impossible: that Palestinians and Israelites learn to live peacefully side-by-side, and that the rest of the world support such an arrangement. Palestine is the whole world's heritage, and not just the staked-out domain of one race.

Meanwhile, those of us who watch the Middle East as spectators must NOT stoke the hate even further. For instance: Resist starting a Web discussion on this volatile subject (or making provocative replies) if your real aim is to pick a fight and show off your IQ, yet can't provide insights to how the war can be stopped.

May peace be with us all.
